Bespoke Consultation Appointments

Begin your design journey by booking a 45 min consultation with Eloise, either virtually or from our studio in Brunswick East. To do so, click here and select Bespoke Consultation from the options provided. Bookings are open 3 months in advance. If you do not see any consult times available in the next 3 months, you can wait for more times to be released or email us to contact you if there are any cancelations. A $100 deposit is required to confirm your appointment, which is later redeemable from the final cost of your piece. Should you decide not to go through with bespoke work by Eloise the $100 deposit is non refundable as this covers time spent during and in preparation for your consultation. 

Location

Choose to have your bespoke design consultation in person at our studio - (302 Lygon Street, Brunswick East) or via Zoom. 

Deposit

After the design consultation or once the client has approved the design direction, a 50% deposit is required for the production process to commence. In some instances, for more expensive gemstones, a deposit of up to 70% may be required.

Bespoke Production Timelines

Once deposit is made, bespoke pieces take 12 -16 weeks to come to fruition. We encouraged clients with a specific proposal date or occasion in mind to allow a little extra time when planning, to ensure a smooth turnaround. 

Budget

The minimum budget for bespoke designs is $3500AUD, however the price for your piece will be determined by metal and gem choice and piece complexity. We are skilled at working with your personal budget and will do our very best to source stones within your range. This can be further discussed during your consultation.

Preparing for your Bespoke Design Consult

It is useful to come to your consultation prepared with an idea of the style of piece and gemstones that you like. We recommend browsing through Eloise's past bespoke designs and other one of a kind designs. Please keep in mind that Eloise will not copy the work of another artist or jeweller.

If you are completely unsure, just come to your appointment with an open mind of what is possible.

Heirloom Stones

We love working with clients own heirloom stones as they are often full of history and sentiment. Please bring them to your bespoke design consultation. Please note, we prefer to work with the most durable stones such as heirloom diamonds, sapphires or rubies.

Repurposing Gold

This service can only be provided for certain designs that can be sand-cast in house. These are often more simple style textured bands.

For most of Eloise's designs that feature more details and stones, we cannot reuse a customers own gold, however we can offer a refining (recycling) credit from the existing gold towards your new piece

Ring Sizing

At your consultation we will measure your finger to determine the best ring fit for you. If you are designing a ring as a surprise for a loved one, it is a good idea to find a ring they currently wear and measure the internal diameter of this ring. Find out more with our ring sizing guide here.

If you are still in doubt, don't worry - we will work with you to find the closest size estimate. Should a resize be needed once your piece is complete, this can be arranged for a fee starting from $200, determined upon inspection of the piece.

International + Interstate Customers

Eloise proudly works with clients across the globe. Your initial bespoke design consultation will be held virtually via Google Meet or Zoom. Further conversation about your piece during the design and production process may include phone calls, emails, images or videos.

Please note, international shipping fees are the responsibility of the customer. International packages are subject to taxes and duties upon delivery to your country. Any customs fees, taxes and duties that may be incurred to clear your item through customs are also the client's responsibility. Eloise Falkiner does not cover the cost of these international taxes and duties.

Finding the right ring size is about more than a number. Fingers naturally fluctuate with temperature, time of day and other changes in the body, and the width and shape of a ring can affect how it feels when worn.

For the most accurate fit, we always recommend having the finger professionally measured. If that isn’t possible, you can use a ring that already fits well to find your size at home.

AUSTRALIAN RING SIZE CHART

Australia and the United Kingdom use a lettered ring sizing system. The chart below can be used to compare your Australian size with international sizing systems, as well as the corresponding inner diameter and circumference in millimetres.

Ring sizing can vary slightly between measuring tools and jewellers, so we recommend using the chart as a guide rather than relying on a conversion alone.

FINDING YOUR RING SIZE

HAVE YOUR FINGER PROFESSIONALLY MEASURED

Where possible, we recommend having your finger measured by a jeweller using professional ring sizers.

Make sure you have the finger and hand you intend to wear the ring on measured, as sizing can differ between fingers and between hands.

The style of ring matters, too. Wider bands tend to feel more snug than finer bands, while finger shape, knuckles and rings worn together as a stack can all influence the most comfortable fit.

If you're visiting the Eloise Falkiner studio for a bespoke consultation, we can assess your size and the fit of your chosen design as part of the process.

USING A RING THAT ALREADY FITS

If you have a ring that fits comfortably on the correct finger:

1. Place the ring flat and measure its inner diameter in millimetres. Measure through the centre of the ring, from inside edge to inside edge.
2. Take a few measurements across different points of the ring to check for consistency.
3. Compare the measurement with the inner diameter shown in our sizing chart above.

Be sure to use a ring worn on the same finger and hand as the new ring.

MEASURING YOUR FINGER AT HOME

If you aren't able to have your finger professionally measured or measure an existing ring, you can estimate your size using a strip of non-stretchy paper.

1. Wrap the paper snugly around the base of the finger. It should feel secure without being tight.
2. Mark the point where the paper overlaps.
3. Lay it flat and measure the length in millimetres. This is the circumference of your finger.
4. Compare this measurement with the circumference shown in the chart above.

This method has more room for error than professional sizing or measuring an existing ring, so we recommend using it only as a guide.

WHEN TO MEASURE

Fingers naturally change throughout the day and with temperature. For a more reliable measurement, measure towards the end of the day at a comfortable room temperature, and take two or three readings to check for consistency.

A well-fitting ring should pass over the knuckle with gentle resistance and sit comfortably at the base of the finger without spinning loosely or requiring force to remove.

CONSIDER THE WIDTH OF YOUR RING

Ring width can change the way a size feels.

A wider band contacts more of the finger and will generally feel more snug than a fine band in the same size. As a guide, bands between 5–7 mm may require approximately half a size larger, while bands 8 mm and wider may require an additional half to full size.

These are guidelines rather than absolute rules. If you're choosing a wider ring or are between sizes, please contact us and we can advise you based on the particular design.

CHOOSING A RING AS A SURPRISE

If the ring is a surprise, try borrowing a ring they already wear comfortably on the same finger and hand and measure its inner diameter using the instructions above.

If that isn't possible, someone close to them may be able to help you estimate their size.

Some Eloise Falkiner rings are easier to adjust than others, so if you're unsure, get in touch before ordering. We can help you choose the most appropriate size based on the design.

WHAT IF I'M BETWEEN SIZES?

There isn't one rule that works for every ring.

The width, design and construction of the piece all affect whether it is preferable to size slightly up or down. Some designs can be gently adjusted after making, while rings with stones, engraving or detailing around the band may have more limited resizing options.

If you fall between two sizes, contact us before ordering and we'll help you determine the best option for your chosen ring.

WHAT IF MY RING DOESN'T FIT?

Most rings can be resized, although what is possible will depend on the design, stones, detailing and the amount of adjustment required.

If your ring doesn't feel quite right when it arrives, please contact us and we'll talk you through the available options.

HOW MUCH DOES RING RESIZING COST?

Resizing starts at $200, with the final cost confirmed once we have inspected the piece.

The cost will depend on the design, material and amount of adjustment required. Some alterations require additional metal or more extensive work and will therefore cost more.

CAN EVERY RING BE RESIZED?

Not every design can be resized in the same way.

Rings with stones, engraving or patterning around the band can be limited in how much they can be altered. If you're unsure about your size when ordering one of these designs, please contact us first so we can help you find the best fit.

SIZING FOR A BESPOKE PIECE

For a commissioned ring, finding the right size is part of the design process.

Where possible, we'll measure your finger in person and consider the width, shape and intended fit of the piece. If the ring is a surprise, we'll work with whatever information you're able to bring us and help determine the best approach.

DAILY WEAR AND DAMAGE PREVENTION

To prevent accidental damage through knocks and bumps  it is recommended to remove your jewellery before activities such as swimming, exercising, gardening and washing dishes.

Be sure to apply any hair/ body products or perfume before putting your jewellery on to avoid any direct contact between the two. Self care products may contain chemicals, oils or fragrances which can seep into porous stones (particularly pearls!) or cause a colour reaction in the metal. 

STORAGE OF YOUR JEWELLERY

Store all of your jewellery individually, ideally in a drawer or non scratch surface  so that it will not scratch or rub against other pieces. If going long periods of time between wear, it is best to keep your jewellery in an air tight ziplock bag to avoid any oxidisation. Metals (particularly silver) can naturally develop a patina over time. The best way to avoid this is to wear it regularly and clean it regularly. 

BESPOKE JEWELLERY CHECKS  AND CLEANING

It is wise to have your bespoke jewellery checked once a year or so to ensure the settings around gemstones remain strong. Past bespoke clients are welcome to have their jewellery professionally checked, cleaned and polished at Eloise’s Melbourne CBD studio. Please email us to organise a time for this service. This takes about an hour or two and can often be done on the spot while you have a coffee or wine in the downstairs bar.

CLEANING YOUR JEWELLERY AT HOME

There are a few ways to keep your jewellery sparkling at home. To start with you can use a jewellery polishing cloth to gently buff the high surfaces of your jewellery. You can also soak your jewellery in a bath of warm water and mild dishwashing detergent then use an extra soft baby tooth brush for getting behind the stones. 

BICARB SODA, SALT AND FOIL METHOD

Another method for cleaning your jewellery at home is using the bicarb soda and foil method. This method is only suitable for diamonds, sapphires and rubies - not other delicate gemstones. To do this, line a bowl with aluminum foil (shiny side up). Place your jewellery inside, then sprinkle with approx 1 tsp of bicarb soda and 1tsp of salt. Cover with boiling water and return in 15 min when the water has cooled.

ULTRASONIC CLEANERS

If you happen to have your own ultrasonic cleaner at home, they can be useful for removing dirt and grime that gets stuck behind your gemstones. Add a splash of dishwashing liquid and vinegar to your ultrasonic for cleaning your silver or gold. Be sure to only put harder gemstones such as diamonds, sapphires, rubies or garnets in an ultrasonic cleaner.   Never use an ultrasonic cleaner for jewellery with less durable gemstones such as tourmalines, emeralds, turquoise, opals, pearls. 

PEARL CARE

Pearls are porous and therefore caring for your pearls is very important.  Please do not drop your pearl jewellery on hard surfaces, submerge in water, wear with open woven clothing, spray with perfume or expose to cream/makeup of any kind. Pearls should be cleaned with a damp cloth but never submerged in water or sprayed with cleaning products. A good rule of thumb is to put your pearl jewellery on last.

GOLD PLATED JEWELLERY CARE

Please be conscious that gold-plated jewellery is delicate and will wear over time. Do not spray gold plated jewellery with perfume or wear in water.  A metal specific polishing cloth, or specialised jewellery cleaner can also be used to rejuvenate your piece. If you would like the gold plating renewed on your EF jewellery, we can do this for a nominal fee.
